Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

Crime Report

with one comment

The following article demonstrates that the reports of hate crimes against gays and religious groups increased sharply in 2008. The largest category, racially-motivated hate crimes, fell less than 1 percent. According to the article, half of all hate crimes are motivated by race. One out of every five is driven by religious bias and one out of every six is based on sexual orientation bias.

What do you suggest are some reasons for the decrease in number of reported racially-motivated hate crimes and increase in hate crimes against gays and religious groups?

  1. Probably the growing debate on homosexual marriage, and the increase of homosexual acceptance are maybe some reasons why there is a spike in hate crimes motivated by sexual orientation.
