Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

What Will We Do Now?

Now that I have learned all these tools to combat modern racism and racial thinking in America in this class I am left asking myself, “What am I to do now?” I am an ally to the fight for racial progression now so what do I do? After much pondering I have decided to try to make more of an impact in my surrounding social environment. I think that when it comes to the topic of promoting equality in our society that there is no room for laziness. Doing nothing only promotes the status quo and helps our adversaries in this movement. Groups like the KKK and Neo-Nazis, while extreme, are so small because racist people really don’t need to be a part of a group to keep racial change at bay. They have the easy option of doing nothing because doing nothing is what keeps racial discrimination, stereotypes, and hatred in the picture. We, as the progressives, must actually do the walking. We don’t have the option to sit on our heals in order to make change happen. We, as blacks, hispanics, asians, white allies, and so forth have to let people know in our everyday lives that people’s attitudes are not going to abide racial comments, or discriminatory attitudes. We have to get off of our asses, so let’s move!
