Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

No More Excuses

with one comment

I’ve read a few posts and comments about how educational this class has been and I couldn’t agree more. However, this class goes beyond allowing us to be informed on a subject. This class has taken away the excuse any of us could have used. We no longer can tell ourselves that something isn’t racism, when we know it is. This class takes the excuse away that something is “just a harmless joke” when we know that they have powerful effects. We now all have a responsibility to not just hold the education and information selfishly inside our brains, but to use it everyday. Ignorance was never a good excuse for allowing, condoning and promoting racism, but now we no longer have any excuse. We all owe it to each other, to speak up when we come face to face with friends and family who could use any a portion of the info we now all have and every one of us should feel guilty if we continue to act as though we don’t see, as if we don’t know. Racism can’t end, unless people end it, and there is no reason that we can’t be some of those people.

  1. I agree with you completely! We have learned so much this semester and we owe it to ourselves and each other to always stand up for what is right and to not let racism go unnoticed.
