Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

Impossible feat

with 2 comments

We recently read an article concerning Pres. Obama and the race relations today in America. Many expected Obama to “cure” racial tensions and are putting him on the chopping block for not “performing” his  duties. What I don’t understand is why  people would expect one man to erase prejudice, discrimination, and racism from the face of America when it took more than one man to create and implement it. More importantly, I doubt that if Hilary Clinton was president that she would be  expected to solve racial tensions. Just because Obama is Black does not mean that he has the power to change people’s perception of race. That seems like an impossible feat for any one person to accomplish.

  1. There is no doubt that it would take much more than a single person, no matter how great a leader, to “cure racial tensions.” However, many people that set this unreachable goal for him in their minds are simply the same people that just want to see him fail and will oppose anything he does (no matter how productive) just because President Obama is the one doing it.

  2. I totally agree with everything said, also I feel that Americans have to take more steps to finding a “cure” for “racial tensions”. We have to be the change that we want to see in the world.
