A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

Police Brutality

I was watching this video on youtube last night about police brutality. I understand P.O’s get aggravated b/c a lot of people run from them or etc but they have no authority to do what they did in the past and get away with it. On the video they beat this 14 year old boy up so bad, is nose was bloody, his face was swollen and his body fell limped to the ground when they were done. this young boy was too small for these 2 officers to be attacking like that. I mean the boy didn’t hit nor punch at either of the officers. He told his family it felt as though the life was being sucked out of him. Why, the officers said they wanted to sustain him because he didn’t move when they told him to. Ok, arrest him not beat him up and put him in the hospital. The most appalling thing was, the 2 officers were black. The whole incident is cruel and unusual punishment! At home and out of uniforms I bet these kind of officers are cowards and worthless people who aren’t happy with their lives. There is no excuses for this type of behavior on a little boy like this. Some PO’s can be corrupt and i see why some people dont trust them.

  1. What relevance does the two officers being black have on this story? Was the race of the young boy relevant? I don’t understand how that matters.

  2. I don’t know much about this particular incident but historically a lot of police brutality (not all) has been racially motivated. Typically when the story is of a young Black innocent individual being severely beaten or killed it is often by White officers. There is also a belief among some that Black cops are the worst because they feel they have something to prove. Whether that is true or not, no one knows for sure. Nevertheless, Police brutality is wrong regardless of the race of the victim or the cops.

  3. Police brutality is a serious and outrageous issue that needs to be stopped. Police officers feel that the badge and uniform is key for them to do whatever they want. Police officers abuse their power and feel that they are or above the law. The saddest part is when they commit such actions they usually get away with it unless its visually or audio recorded. Police receive a lot of unfair privileges today and they are not afraid to use and it.

  4. I feel as though police brutality is moving from being racially motivated, to being all about power. Some officers feel like they are invincible and can do anything they want when they have on their badge and uniform. The sad thing about this is that this causes more and more citizens to not trust and rely on the people that are suppose to be there to protect and serve.
