Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

Yesterday I started to watch the Battle of Algers, which is a famous movie about the street fights and conflict in the 1950’s in Algeria, which is a muslim country. Its amazing how similar the situation there is to todays society in the war in Iraq, Afganistan and even here at home. There was racial profiling at checkpoints, even letting Caucasian looking women who were not wearing traditional dress right through checkpoints, while putting guns to normal Algerian males heads. It was interesting to note that while they let those women through, they were in fact the ones who were the threat. In other words, profiling doesn’t solve anything, you should either screen everyone or no-one.
