Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

Racism in Churches

with one comment

I was reading this article that talks about racism and church. After I read the article, I decided to read a few of the comments that were posted at the end of the article. In one of the comment, someone posed the question and I quote “If a white church has no black members or staff, is that proof that they are racist and need to be fixed, by force if necessary?” Church is the last place I would expect anyone to bring racism into because racism doesn’t have a place there. Where a person choose to go to church is their problem and if that church happen to be all white and all black doesn’t necessarily mean that that particular church is racist. I am certain that if a black person was to walk into an all white church they wouldn’t tell that black person to not attend the church just as if a white person was to walk into a black church, they wouldn’t tell that person to get out also. Now, you will definitely have a few people who will not like the idea of a black person coming to an all white church, but they still can’t make that person not attend the church. So I don’t think people should bring racism into the churches.

  1. True, racism should not be brought into church, nor should the classification of a ‘white church’ or ‘black church’. With these outlooks, it becomes discouraging for a person of a different race than the classified race of the church to attend, and that should not be what is occurring.
