A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

April-Confederate History Month in Virginia

with one comment

I do not know how many people have a problem with this, but I certainly do. Not only did Republican Governor Bob McDonnell declare April to be Confederate History Month, he also forgot to give mention to one huge stain in American history and definitely Confederate history, slavery. Although he has apologized for said omission, I have a hard time understanding why Virginia and so many other states continue to glorify the confederacy. Confederate flags as well as a month designated to such a cause brings up a racist, and wait for it, “anti-American” ideology and history. I do not accept the Governor’s apology. He had time to think about what he wanted to say and create a statement that could have been proofed. He did not care and therefore why should I? It is time politicians face the repercussions of their actions and inactions. Just because you apologize, should the American people (many of whom had ancestors that were deeply and negatively affected by slavery) just forgive and just forget? I think not.

  1. I agree with you. I am so sick and tired of politicians saying hurtful things and getting away with it. Being an African American, I find most comments and views of today’s politicians hurtful.
