Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

let’s not go here

I was downtown last night with some of my friends and we hadn’t decided what club we wanted to go to yet. The plan was to walk around and find the one with the most noise and the most people and then go there. This plan was perfect until we got to one of the clubs with a line around the building, but one of my friends said I don’t really want to go there. I asked why and she said it was because the line was mostly black people. I laughed because I didn’t know what else to do. While she was right in that the majority of people in line were black, that shouldn’t have made a difference. We kept walking and found another club to go into and, ironically, this line was almost entirely white. I felt like we had gone back in time to the 1960s or 70s and there were understood rules about which clubs were for which race. It was a surreal experience, not to mention an eye opening one.

  1. “I felt like we had gone back in time to the 1960s or 70s and there were understood rules about which clubs were for which race.” <— Lol

You are right though, black people in that line should not have made a difference. For me, it all depends on the type of music a club plays and not the color of people.

  2. I agree entirely because the demographic is consisited of merely the race, ethinicity or religion. In todays time the focus is on not only the clothing, money, principle but the color of a person.
At the club my focus is on the music and people, not the color.

  3. wow this is ridiculous! even my friends decide what clubs not to go downtown when they are having “white or black nights” (how they call it.)Personally i am proved to have fun wherever i am without caring what is the dominant race of a place.

  4. That is horrible that she would choose where to go to depending on the people who are in line. I’m sure she was thinking that it was going to be a “ghetto” club that will eventually end in someone fighting. This is ridiculous personally I will have fun as long as I’m with my friends and there is good music playing I dont need to worry about anyone else.
