Wars based on racism

Tom Hanks is under fire by conservatives who are angry about the comments, Hanks made during the promotion of his new show “The Pacific” on HBO.  Hanks claims that WWII and the War on terror were ignited by racism. Hanks states, “[‘The Pacific’] represents a war that was of racism and terror . . . the only way to complete one of these battles on these small specks of rock in the middle of nowhere was, and I’m sorry, to kill them all.” Conservatives including Bill O’ Reilly slammed Hanks for his remarks. Hanks tried to clarify his remarks stating, “It would be naive to assume that racism was not part of that quotiant of World War II.” Those were some pretty strong remarks, but i’m not sure as to how large a part racism played.
