Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

Rap Performance

with one comment

Yesterday I stopped at Orange and Brew to get food after my E1 class. There was a rapping karaoke contest. Every single person in there was black. After one couples performance, the announce came on stage and said, “Don’t be shy just come up and show us your moves..look around we are all of the same kind.” I was shocked to hear this. I feel like they were already stereotyping whites as being judgmental or thinking that was below them to partake in. Just because someone is white does not mean that they can’t rap or they should be treated any different on stage then a black person. Just because someone is white does not mean they are out to belittle minorities or place stereotypes on them.

  1. The way I see it, people need to understand that certain races tend to partake in certain activities. It does not make the other people racist. If there was a contest for singing country songs, i doubt anyone would be angry at blacks for not showing up. People need to accept the reality that each race has their own culture that they grew up with. It’s dumb to make this into a racist move on the part of whites and is overly sensitive.
