Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

How do you react?

with one comment

Every week I read most of the post and a lot of times I read post that talk about a personal experience someone had with a friend. They will post something about a friend saying something that was racist and how they never knew their friend was racist or would ever say such thing about a person because of their race. I never see anyone write about their reaction to their friend whether they sat there and listened in amazement or whether they actually put their foot down on what they believe in and being offended by the comment? Just by reading the post I assume that many people just think in their head I can not believe he/she just said that, but never say it out loud. Why are we not speaking up? You are that same person that they show on ABC what would you do, just sit there and watch racism happen. Stand up for what you believe in just as much as they can state their opinion so can you. I wonder after you hear someone you know say such things are you still friends with them?

  1. Getting into fights and calling someone racist does not solve problems just like we talk about in class. Just because someone holds different views then you do does not mean that they aren’t a good friend. It’s the same as people with different religious views. I am a Christian but am friends with a lot of people who don’t believe but that’s ok. We can all learn from each other and by shutting people out who don’t think like this doesn’t solve anything.
