Student Hangs Noose On University Campus

with 4 comments

During February of this year, a student of the University of California at San Diego admitted to hanging a noose in a on-campus library. While some students feared for their safety others joined a rally to combat racial intolerance. After reading this article I was completely shocked that, although we live in the year 2010, there is a university student, whom you would assume is an educated person, hanging a noose, something that carries such a derogatory and negative connotation. The only good thing that came out of this horrible incident was that students, faculty, and the rest of America were faced with the realization that racism still very much exists and should be opposed. I was happy to hear that students gathered to do just that.

  1. You almost have to wonder how he even learned how to tie a noose in the first place. First off its illegal to tie a noose, second its a very difficult knot to tie, the fact that he learned how to tie on in itself is scary because it implies that he either learned it online which suggests that there are others who share his beliefs or that a relative taught him which is just as equally sad. In short when something like this happenes, you have to wonder how they know how they learned these things in the first place

  2. Being educated doesn’t necessarily mean their not gonna be racist. I blogged about the same occurrence, and it wasn’t just a noose, another jewish girl on the same campus found a swastika carved into her door. Even though its 2010 we still see acts of racism and probably will for a long time.

  3. This is the same kind of incident that created the controversy over the Jena 6 case. These symbols of hate, like the swastika and the noose, do nothing but infuriate people, there isn’t anything cool about it, and that’s what that kid fails to realize.

  4. I’m very appalled, how was he even able to hang that thing in the library??!! Every now and then I have to ask myself and others this very basic question; why are people so filled with hate? how can you hate a whole race without ever being able to even know a whole race. past experiences with INDIVIDUALS should not suffice for a GROUP. everyone is different. I could never ever do something like this!
