Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

Oh no not again…

I am sure that everyone has heard about or seen news reports about Tiger Woods.  As tired as I am of hearing about his infidelity, I recently READ two conflicting blogs about the reason he is receiving so much publicity. Tiger Woods is definitely not the first married man to be unfaithful to his wife so why all the hype? ONE of the blogs said that it is because he is black (along with other ethnicities) and that they simply want to tarnish his clean record. On the other hand, the OTHER blog claimed it is because he is a successful golfer and the media just loves to villanize celebrities and professional athletes. I personally DONT think that his race has anything to do with it. I think he is receiving a lot of attention simply because he is FAMOUS. While I definitely dont condone his behavior I think that it is unfortunate that some people get a kick out of watching stars struggle. Almost like saying “see they’re not better than us.”

  1. I do not believe the hype of Tiger Woods has anything to do with race. The reason he got so much attention is because he had a squeaky clean image and that all went crashing down. I think it’s a little overboard to blame media attention to race alone. Many white celebrities have been accused of infidelity and written about.

  2. I also believe it is primarily because of the clean image he had. He was not very outspoken and was rarely seen in the tabloids so when this happened it was just a shocker to everyone.

  3. This doesn’t have anything to do with race at all because if it was a white athlete with as much popularity as Tiger Woods who was in the same situation they would’ve done probably the same thing because they are making millions of dollars off of it and that is one aspects of the media and it is a business there to make money.

  4. I dont really care whether he’s white, black, purple, or green. I don’t care that he cheated either. I feel like the whole situation is none of the publics business and it’s just being used as a way to get media attention. I’m so over hearing about him just like I was over hearing about Michael Jackson.

Tiger cheated, get over it. It didn’t affect us at all unless you were the wife or the mistress.
