Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

Racism in an elevator

with one comment

I was having difficulty coming up with something to blog about, so i youtubed “racism” and clicked on the first video. Its a rather rude type of commercial i guess you could call it, that talks about how every 45 seconds a black man walks into an elevator and a white woman immediately holds on to her purse a bit tighter. He says that doing something like that actually provokes an assult but i dont think thats true. If anyone is going to steal a purse they are predetermined. They arent going to just steal a purse because they say oh she thinks I’m gonna steal her purse well then let me steal it then, no. Although i do agree with the fact that many people act racially fearful, and actually hold on to their purse tighter or lock their doors when a black person walks by. Why do people do this? how long would it take or rather what would it take for this behavior to stop?

  1. Lol this video was extremely hilarious especailly with his moderate tone throughout. Not that I agree with him, but I can see where he’s coming from. Seeing something like this could actually provoke someone and make them want to react in a negative way.
