Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

“Why do Black/asian/whites…”

with one comment

Apparently people believe racial stereotypes a lot more than we’d like to admit it, and even look to google to help figure out the answers to why certain races do things. If you go to and type in why do ______ and insert any racial group, some very interesting most popular searches come up. Some are normal, like why do mexicans celebrate day of the dead. But some of the other top searches, like why are white people superior or why do black people love watermelon or have weird names show that our society still has a long way to go in the way it characterizes human beings.

  1. I found this interesting and decided I would do some experimenting of myself with typing this into google. I want to say that what I found was unacceptable in today’s society, but it’s hard to be surprised. While many of these questions appear to be absolutely racist comments, I don’t really think that all of them intend on offending anyone. Many people, especially the internet savvy newer generation of children, live in extremely sheltered communities where their only experience with other races is highly limited. I believe that these individuals just need some new cultural experience and education on different cultures.
