A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

In “this day and age”

The disaster in Haiti has really brought out the good in so many American people, but it has also brought out the ugly. People say hateful disturbing things about the people of Haiti because of their skin color and because of the belief that they all practice voo doo and somehow this entire thing is their fault. While I hate hearing and reading these things, I am not at all surprised. I always hear people saying they can’t believe there are so many hateful people ‘in this day and age’ but America hasn’t changed as dramatically as everyone seems to think. Sure, there are a lot more open-minded people than there were 50 years ago, but groups like the KKK are thriving, and with talks of starting all white basketball leagues and other nonsense, maybe we should reexamine ‘this day and age.’ I think American laws are made to promote justice across the board, but a lot of Americans are lagging behind in their beliefs.
