A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

with 5 comments

The other day on twitter, a celebrity posted a video asking people to donate money to Unicef that would be sent to aid the people of Haiti. I was astonished by some of the replies i read. One in particular said they had no need to donate to Haiti because Haitians are all thieves and corrupt and the money that they donate wouldn’t do any good. After a natural disaster of this magnitude one would think the people would be more concerned on rebuilding their homes and finding lost relatives rather than trying to steal. It just shocked me that someone would have that kind of mentality.

  1. I have to say I’m not surprise that people would say that. Not everyone cares what happen to the people of Haiti. Yes a mojority do as we can see with all the contributions that have been made but not everyone feels like they should help. It is sad but some people think that we have no business in being in Haiti or helping them. People in America or people in general are greedy and only care about themselves. Some people don’t realize that even though nothing happen here it is still a major issue. Not everyone has an open heart and hurt when others hurt.

  2. I’m not surprised either by what some would say. We live in an individualistic society and the truth is that many of us only care about ourselves and though we may see what happened to Haiti as devastating we don’t let it disrupt our lives in any way

  3. It is ridiculous that someone would say these horrible thing amidst such a tragedy. We should be focusing on helping the people of Haiti: rebuilding their homes, sending them food, and finding their loved ones. People should not be judging people or calling them terrible things just because they may have had one bad experience with a Haitian. It’s ridiculous to carry one judgment and pass it to the entire population. Would we really want people to not help us as Americans in a tragedy just because of the terrible things that one American may have done to someone in the past? And, I still believe that those things shouldn’t matter in the least and that we should do all we can to help the people of Haiti.

  4. It is really ashame that someone would take it this far when these people are struggling and in desperate need of help. Instead of labeling Haitians as theives we should be focused on trying to help these people get out of the situation that they are in and pray for them.

  5. Unfortunately this mentality is so common and shared by so many that it comes as no shock to me to hear this. You would think however, that when there are so many people suffering and dieing that people would humble themselves and try to show some compassion. It’s a shame that such people can hang onto such hatred and stereotypical thoughts at times like this.
