Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

All White American Basketball Team

with 2 comments

An All-White American basketball is suppose to begin in June. According to Fox news “Only players that are natural-born U.S. citizens with both parents of the Caucasian race are eligible to playing the league”. Don Lewis who is trying to get the league started stated that “people of white, American born citizens are in the minority now”. I found this statement very surprising because any textbook or legitimate source would tell you that Caucasians are the majority and have been for years. In addition American society, especially the minority, have fought for the inclusiveness and equality that we somewhat have today and I feel like this is a step backwards towards segregating the nation all over again.

  1. An all white basketball team that only allows Caucasians to participate seems unfair to me. I feel that this is double discrimination becasue no other races can play and you have to be born a US citizen. I agree with you on this because this is a huge step backwards. Soon, other segregated things will seem to happen.

  2. I, also, agree with the unfairness and inequality in the league. Especially, for a society that is striving for just the opposite affect. Segregation is not a movement any race should have to face, and by exclusively sperating themselves from other races, they are enabling that very movement. Instead of a progression, and independently executed “white” basketball would only cause the society to retreat back in to earlier ways, when, instead, we should be looking to create ways in achieving a “togetherness”.
