Political turmoil escalated under ex-Honduran president Zelayas. Protests and minor bombings have marked the past 5 months in Honduras, with all arguing over how to re-write the constitution. After being flown out to Costa Rica in what Zelayas calls a “coup,” Hondurans rushed to the polls to vote for a new president. Many protested the election itself, considering it to be an illegitimate event. Candidates include Zelayas’ vice president, Elvin Santos, who opposes Zelayas, and Porfirio Lobo, a former congressman who is neutral on the political crisis that has been occurring for the past 5 months in Honduras. Polls closed today, Nov. 29th. Many people claim to be happy regardless of who wins, claiming that it will help ease the tensions and unite many.
