Perspectives on Race

A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

Sarah Palin

with 3 comments

A few months ago Newsweek Magazine published a cover photo of Sarah Palin in short running shorts. It was a photo she had taken for a health and fitness magazine. Some people may ask, “So What?”. Well the question I ask is “Why?” I don’t understand why, of all the photos of Sarah Palin available, they chose to publish one of her in shorts. She responded by calling the move sexist. Did the magazine have the intention of emphasizing her sex appeal and objectifying her?

  1. Objectifying her? Really? I think that she did a number on herself when she dressed in those tight librarian outfits during the campaign. This is just another way to keep her in the press.

  2. There’s no doubt in my mind that this is just to show her sex appeal. I honestly believe that if she wasn’t as pretty as she is that she wouldn’t be in the position she’s in now. Look at Hillary Clinton. She’s never been in any of these magazines and nobody ever talks about how hot she is. The press is definitely emphasizing her sex appeal.

  3. I can not believe the previous posters. First off this choice of picture was an article about her book tour, and was not chosen by her. The picture was used as an attack against her and to make her look like that her sex appeal is all that she has. It was blatant objectification. I completely disagree with her run for the vice president, but I still feel the use of that photo was uncalled for.
