A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

I have been very frustrated recently with the language that a lot of people, and especially men, use when insulting each other. As a woman, it is insulting when guys call each other “girls” to put each other down, or things of that nature. This happens often in sports. I feel that it is very derogatory and disrespectful to do. It also makes it difficult to show guys respect.

  1. I never had a second thought when men called each other “girls” until this very moment. The connotation to that is that woman are weak and by calling a man that, they are considered weak as well which is very disturbing because I consider myself to be a very Strong and independent women.

  2. I agree, it is demeaning to women. Any traits of weakness or sensitivity in our society are thought to be womanly. The same is true for calling strong or ambitious women butch or any other derogatory name.

  3. I think that the assumption isn’t that women are weak, just that we are dainty. Like the way most women would run from a spider or an insect if it flew into their face.

  4. I agree that this is very offensive, I think it allows men to continue to perceive women as their subordinates, no matter how ‘harmless’ those speaking think it may be.

  5. Calling a man a girl in order to offend is just another example of how gender equality is so deeply rooted in our society. Most people do ti without thinking,
