President Obama’s bow to Emperor of Japan and racism in media

with 3 comments

Once again, mainstream American Media has neglected cultural significance, customs and respect. To say that the President looks like an idiot for bowing to the Emperor of Japan show a complete lack of understand of Japanese culture which is rooted in respect and discipline. The atypical American’s lack of exposure to different cultures amazes me. You don’t have to fly to Japan to know a little something about their lives, all you have to do it type “Japan” into and you’ll have more then enough information to get you started. We should all start acting like we are part of a Global community; take some time to learn a little something about your neighbors.

  1. As a political science major, it is absolutely absurd for the American head of state to bow to any other, especially if it is a monarch. The US upholds and espouses democratic beliefs so it would be hypocritical for the leader of our nation to bow to a monarch. Also, to many political scientists this would be symbolic of America’s subservience to other nations. The bowing of Obama to the Japanese Emperor represents in an abstract sense the bowing America to Japan, which is totally detrimental to America’s image as the primer global power. It doesn’t even matter about customs or traditions of other nations because international power politics works very differently. Politics outweighs culture in matters of national prestige and honor.

  2. I think the nonliterary people in America are more ignorant than any people on face of the Earth. President Barack Obama’s knowledge is more literate than ours; so I think he knows what he is doing. Also, I think he is being more humble to the people of Japan and the Emperor of Japan. I know that President bowing makes America look weak and stupid, but in the other hand, it make us look more knowledgeable and shows respect to Japan.

    • The emperor will never bow back because it is strictly against royal etiquette and protocol. A bow in Japanese culture is suppose to signify mutual respect if both parties bow. Bowing to the emperor is a symbol of loyalty and submission. Obama may be learned, but he still lacks professionalism on the world stage. His actions are quite amateurish to say the least. To his benefit he is learning, but the problem is that he should have learned this before he became President.
