Chia Obama?

This piece was about a Chia Pet Obama. If you don’t know what a Chia Pet is, it’s a clay figure that has seeds in it and you water it and the seeds grow. Sometimes the Chia Pets are cats, dogs, or turtles, but in this case it’s our President, and with enough water, light, and tender lovin’ care, you can have your very own Obama clay bust, sporting a handsome green afro.

At first, I was pretty shocked at this and then I read through the article and did a little research. I saw that President Obama is not the first human chia pet. There are chia pets of President Lincoln, Washington, Bush, and many other prominent political figures. Even a Britney Spears chia pet! I don’t really think this is that racist since he wasn’t the first human to be immortalized through the Chia Pet enterprise. Even President Obama laughed it off and said “I’ve got green hair!” I think this is all fun and games, but I can see where some might be upset by it.

  1. I think some people are too PC and need to realize that this product is not intend to be racist. If Obama is okay with him being a Chia Pet then should not cause such a big up roar.

  2. Yes, Chia pets have long been made in the likeness of people who are well known or in positions of influence–people of all races. Although it isn’t necessarily the case that President Obama approved of the Chia Pet, there is absolutely no reason to read further into what is an obviously innocent novelty item. The public and the media are overly sensitive to issues of seeming racism; we all need to take a step back and realize that not everything needs to be a conflict.

    Peace and blessings.
