Gay Apartheid

I noticed that after Maine was added to the list of states which have turned down legislature which would grant gays and lesbians the right to marry, as expected, there has been a marked increase in the amount of press regarding same-sex marriage. The linked article above goes so far as to say that we are living in Gay Apartheid. How do you feel about this?

  1. I have many close friends that are members of the gay community, and I agree that it seems we are now entering a time where discrimination against LBGT individuals is growing. It’s sad to think that my friends and the rest of the community won’t be able to get married or receive benefits of domestic partnerships at this time, as many close-minded idiots are afraid of what will happen if they give them the same rights as all other Americans. Why is the color of our skin or the sex of our partner such a controversial topic? They’re just the same as everybody else.

  2. We as Americans are so focused on all the wrong things and the media does a great job of teaching us what things issues are “cool” and important. Why can’t we fight for peace and poverty? We can’t we seek justice for the poor and in other countries and children being sold into slavery to make the cocoa beans that produce the chocolate that we spend billions of dollars on each year? Why can’t we as Americans stand up for justice and righteousness. The media always seems to put emphasis on all the wrong things.
P.s. when i hear the word apartheid I think of South Africa and their struggle and the injustice that took place their. Pick a new word. The history associated with that word is bigger than we understand right now. It was a term coined by the Afrikaans. Pick a new word

  3. I agree with the article. The systematic discrimination felt by the LGBTQ members in our society is something that is impeding the forward movement of LGBTQ community in American society.
