Gays Will Get Hate Crimes Protections

with 3 comments

This article is about how Congress approved an expansion of the civil rights-era law. To it will be added is physical attacks on people based on their sexual orientation.

I think this bill is the right thing to do for the gay and lesbian community. It protects the lives of this community and it was trying to passed for years and it finally got recognition again. It will join the list of federal hate crimes because it is discrimination against someone who is different. This is a great idea because these kind of cases rarely gets any attention.

  1. They also effectively made it possible for any crime committed by a man against a woman to be considered a hate crime, and vice versa. That seems really annoying and pointless to me, although I agree with the conceptual idea of more protections for gays in society

  2. I am glad to hear this bill is passed because I have plenty of gay/lesbian friends and I would love to see them get treated as if they were “human” and not an alien.

  3. The only thing that is surprising about this is why it wasn’t passed earlier. I don’t understand what took so long to get equal rights for the gay community. It’s not a choice they make, just like race isn’t a choice. People need to be respected for who they are and not discriminated for something out of their control.
