A Discussion about Events Concerning Race

Interracial couple denied marriage license in 2009

with 3 comments

So I’m sitting here on my computer trying to think about what to write about so I decided to go on yahoo and on the front page was this story that I can’t believe is happening in the year 2009.  I AM OUTRAGE AT THIS. A Louisiana judge denied an interracial couple their marriage license because “[of the ] concern for any children the couple may have.” What a load of crap. In 2000-freaking-9. Are you kidding me? I know someone in class mentioned that people should be upfront about their views, well this doesn’t get an more upfront than this. The judge also claims that in his “experience that interracial marriages do not last long.”  WHATEVER! MOST INTRA-RACIAL MARRIAGES DO NOT LAST LONG BUT WE DON’T DENY THEM THEIR MARRIAGE LICENSE. HECK MOST CELEBRITY MARRIAGES LAST AS LONG AS DOG YEARS BUT THEY GET MARRIED 5 TIMES. NO ONE DENIES THEM THEIR RIGHT.

The judge also had the audacity to say I have piles of black friends who come to his home and “use his bathroom”; he treats them like everyone else. Can anybody remember what we read about in Racism without Racists concerning rhetoric; well there it is, staring at us in October 2009

PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE. I AM TO INFURIRATED TO CONTINUE….

  1. Yea I just saw the same thing on yahoo. It’s really unbelievable that a judge will publicly announce that he doesn’t deem interracial marriage as right in this day and age. I agree with all the points you made and I hope, as the article stated that he will resign from his job and spend some time thinking why what he thinks about interracial marriage is wrong.

  2. Yeah this article is definitely unbelievable. How this man still has this job considering this isn’t the first time he’s done this. I don’t think that the children’s well being is a valid excuse for his actions. The judge says that nobody was previously bothered by it which also isn’t in any way an indication that it’s okay to do this.
