Students Upset Over Racist Cartoon

with 2 comments

This article surprised me because I don’t understand how the editor of this university’s paper published the cartoon in the first place. The cartoon obviously shows a black man being hung by a noose. This is not funny. Whats even more confusing to me is how the illustrator of the cartoon is African American. Why would he draw this? It makes no sense.

  1. this is pretty shocking, how this made it past editing is beyond acceptable. this should have not been published in the first place and the person who published this should be fired.

  2. It is a very shocking cartoon which was inappropriate and should not have been published. I can understand where the cartoonist was coming from. The cartoonist was trying to show how ridiculous some whites are when they call out African Americans for pulling “the race card.” This was done without thinking and was done quite tastelessly, but the idea behind the cartoon is a good point. Premise was good, though lynching may not have been the best idea to depict.
