Oriental is the Asian N-word?
For the past couple years I’ve been hearing that the word ‘oriental‘ is offensive to Asians. Being Asian myself, I’ve never considered this as a word which caused any negative feelings and use the word myself without hesitation. There’s been a few instances where someone around me has used the word ‘oriental‘ and stopped the conversation to apologize to me before continuing on with the conversation. I certainly don’t know where people get the notion that certain words offend certain people.
Are there any other words that people think offend a certain group that actually may not?
